Review of TYPO3camp Vienna 2025
Content, Community, and Coffee at the Highest Level
From the historic ambiance of the Vienna University to exciting sessions around TYPO3, AI, and Content Blocks – the TYPO3camp in Vienna was an absolute highlight for us. We were not only participants but also had the opportunity to actively contribute to the program with several presentations. Time for a review of inspiring days full of exchange, knowledge, and Viennese flair.
Content Blocks Beginners
Our introductory session on TYPO3 Content Blocks was primarily aimed at developers who had not yet worked with the concept. As members of the TYPO3 Content Types Team, we are particularly passionate about spreading knowledge about modern content elements widely in the community – and Vienna was the perfect place for that. We were especially pleased that we were allowed to speak in the large hall – and that many developers found the introduction to Content Blocks exciting.
Content Blocks Deep Dive
For advanced users, we continued directly with our technical deep dive. We talked about DataProcessing, the use of Partials and Layouts from our own extensions, as well as best practices around Skeletons and the reuse of existing fields. It was an intense exchange with technically skilled participants – just to our taste.
AI Suite – Intelligent Support for TYPO3
Another highlight was our presentation of the AI Suite, where we presented use cases for AI utilization in the TYPO3 environment: automatic metadata generation, content creation, image generation, and the integration of custom models. Even though not everything went smoothly during the live demo (André had to deal with some technical issues), Plan B was convincing – and the enthusiasm was palpable.
AI Driven Skill Development (with Florian Weiss / SkillDisplay)
Together with Florian Weiss, we showed how AI-supported training in companies can look. The SkillDisplay platform not only offers an app for employee training but also a strong gamification approach that is exciting for both agencies and companies. Particularly interesting: training directly in the TYPO3 system – it hardly gets smarter than that.
Smart Extension Builder (Mittwald)
Presented by Mittwald - A promising tool for automated extension creation using AI. Still in development – but already very impressive. We found the use of open-source tools like Diffy as well as linters and parsers for quality assurance particularly exciting.
Building AI Workflows
Here, Martin (Mittwald) provided exciting insights into the AI agent Diffy. Since we work with n8n ourselves, it was particularly interesting to see how others build workflows and use AI purposefully.
Q&A on TYPO3 Product Strategies
In a small, interactive round, the future of TYPO3 was discussed. Present were: Mathias Bolt Lesniak, Daniel Fau, Martin Helmich, and Olivier Dobberkau. Among other things, the strategic relevance of GenAI was discussed – a topic that is also very close to our hearts.
TYPO3 v15 – Visionary Insights
The exchange about TYPO3 version 15 was particularly exciting. The focus on AI integration in CMS systems clearly showed us where the journey is headed – and how important it is to actively shape this.
The Location
Vienna in Top Form
Vienna enchanted us: the impressive architecture, the spacious green areas, and the charming atmosphere were fully enjoyed. Thanks to short distances, we could explore almost everything on foot. The main university provided a dreamlike backdrop for the camp with its venerable halls.
The organization was a complete success: delicious coffee, excellent food – a big shout-out to the organizing team! The only small point of criticism: the lack of a cloakroom. But with consistently good weather, that was bearable.
Networking – Friendship, Expertise, and After-Work Beer
We were particularly pleased to see many familiar faces – and just as much about new contacts. The exchange at the evening events was as enriching as the sessions themselves. In addition to TYPO3 topics, the Viennese brewing art and future project ideas were also on the conversation agenda.
Insights and Outlook
AI Can Help, but Does Not Replace Humans
Tools like the Extension Builder are impressive but require experienced developers to ensure high-quality and secure code.
Content Blocks Are Gaining Relevance
However, the entry point remains important. Our beginner session was well attended, which shows: The community wants to learn!
Frontend Editing Lives
And how! We were particularly impressed by the solution from the agency Bakehouse, which has been operating over 1,000 installations with it for years.
